Japanese “Thank You” – Early Spring Festival

Good morning pretty flowers!

As promised, here are the impressions of the Japanese “Thank you”- Early Spring Festival in Basel. We arrived just at the right time to pick some delicious Sushi from a big flowerbed.  It was an amazing idea to put the Sushi on the salad leaves and garnish with floral radish and rabbit apples (the typical way how Japanese cut their apples for an Bento Lunch box). It was a marvellous flower garden.  May I should try this out when I invite my friends for dinner the next time – would be awesome as an appetizer.

Beside the concerts you could buy Wagashi (traditional Japanese confectionery), sweet and savoury breads, Bento lunch boxes, Arare (Japanese rice crackers) and other yummy stuff from the land of the rising sun. I was standing in front of the Japanese bread stand *omg* they a wide choice of buns, it was very hard to decide. I ended up buying a アンパン (Anpan; bread filled with red bean paste), a 揚げあんぱん(Age-Anpan; fried bread filled with red bean paste) and a クリームパン (Kurimu Pan; bread filled with cream). Mhhh~ *tottemo shiawase!* *very happy*!

Hello my Lovelies!

My yesterday was pretty awesome! I really felt that I was in Japan for one day. I have been to Leysin (which lies in the French part of Switzerland and was far faaaar away from Lucerne) to have a look at the Kumon Leysin Academy of Switzerland (KLAS), a high school for Japanese. I have never heard about this school before and by pure chance my Mum told me that there is a Open House Event on Saturday 16 February 2013. And lucky me didn’t have any school lessons yesterday, so I took this chance to go there with my Japanese Otaku Friends.

The Event was actually a kind of a Bunkasai – a Japanese Cultural Festival. People who are interested in the school or those who would like to enter the school are welcome to see how the atmosphere and the schoolwork are like. The classrooms turn into restaurants or cafés and the students perform dances, concerts and plays. (May some of you know it from Mangas or Animes ).

At KLAS you could attend to Tea Ceremonies, watch how one makes Mochi (Japanese rice cake) and at the performance area you could listen to traditional Japanese music concerts. Some scary moments you could experience in the Haunted House. The restaurant offered delicious Japanese food; Katsu Curry, Negitoro Don, Nimono and many more food were sold at generous prices. Furthermore, you could try on a Yukata/Kimono, try your hand at some Japanese games like Kingyo-sukui, Omikuji, Origami or Kendama and at the Calligraphy room, students wrote your name in beautiful Japanese letters. What surprised me the most was that almost all activities were free.

As you will see, I made a lot of pictures, so this post might be heavy! And I edited a video which is full of marvellous impressions of the Open House Event.

Thank you to my friends, who made me laugh a lot on that day. And Arigatou to all the Japanese boys and girls, teachers and helpers of Kumon Leysin Academy of Switzerland, for this awesome Event! It made so much Fun at KLAS and I look forward to participate again next year.

Hello my readers!

Just a short entry about a sweet little Taiyaki called 鉄子 (Tetsuko). Taiyaki is a typical Japanese fish-shaped sweet, which is filled with Anko, red bean paste. The shop たい焼き”鉄次” is selling three different types of Taiyaki, the standard Taiyaki, a soft version and Taiyaki filled with ice-cream. We got the soft Taiyaki from a Japanese friend and I thought that it would be a great souvenir for my own friends and relatives. I’ll watch out for them when I visit Japan the next time.

This is how their website looks like: I love the Tetsuko Logo (๑´•o • `๑)

this is how they are making Taiyaki:

You can buy it at Matsuzakaya Ginza or Daimaru in Tokyo,
at Urawa Parco in Saitama or at Haneda Airport.

I finally managed to upload the pictures of the JapAniMangaNight Event from last weekend! Unusually, I didn’t take many pictures this time and I didn’t feel like I have to… but for my memories I simply had to grab out my camera. Yep, as you will see at the end, I became again a maid  I love maid-outfits  It was a hard and intensive weekend; cooking Okonomiyaki, serving drinks and coffee, less sleep and lots of hungry people. But all in all: we had a lively time, I met nice new people and the event was – like always – a big success! I look forward to next year; bigger, better and even more fun!

I also listed up the other events, which I attended:
