My mother loves gardening – and I love eating!
Mum harvested some Daikon (japanese radish) from our garden. But they weren’t ordinary Daikon – no, they were violet!
No worries – it’s a just a special type. My Mummy likes to plant unique species of vegetables. (We have already had Kumato (black tomato) or even black carrots) ![]()
So the first question was: how to use these Daikon? Well, the answer is quite simple; cut it in to pieces and use it as a topping for Sōmen (white Japanese noodles made of wheat flour) The Japanese usually eat it cold – in summer it’s exactly the right meal to help stay cool ![]()

There is also another way to enjoy Sōmen: Nagashi Sōmen (flowing Noodles). The noodles are put in water flowing along a long flume of bamboo. You have to catch the noodles with your chopsticks, what is not very easy, nevertheless, it brings you much fun. ![]()
I found some old photos of our holiday in Japan.
My grandfahter halved a Bamboo-tree and so that we could enjoy our self-made Nagashi Sōmen. ![]()
it’s embarassing >w< *ahahaa…*
